MTA Awards @VicomComputer Long Term Technology Agreement | @CloudExpo [#Cloud]

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York Awards Vicom Computer Services with an all agency technology upgrade

Vicom Computer Services, Inc. was awarded an 11 year contract with the MTA.

The MTA launched a request for proposal in September 2013 for a project encompassing and creating a fully redundant core data network across the three core data centers and upgrade user access to applications and facilities throughout NYC Transit.

Vicom will design, install and maintain data communications hardware, software and a comprehensive enterprise management system for a network infrastructure upgrade at three NYC Transit core data center locations, six concentrator locations, 58 major facilities and approximately 250 smaller remote network locations throughout NYC Transit.

The MTA received a total of nine proposals. The due diligence process encompassed an evaluation by the Technical Committees to select three finalist whom then provided an oral presentation on the total solution and implementation strategy.

"The commitment and value Vicom put forth started at the first meeting. The Vicom Team is eager and committed to implementing this service and solution for the MTA." stated Bob Verola, CEO of Vicom Computer Services, Inc.

The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next-gen applications and how to address the challenges of building applications that harness all data types and sources.
