Coriant Showcases Real World Transport SDN at Global OIF, ONF Event

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Coriant, a global supplier of dynamic metro-to-core transport solutions, today announced the Company has successfully demonstrated multi-vendor interoperability during a global, multi-carrier test event designed to advance the development, implementation and openness of Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions.

Participating in multiple carrier labs as part of the Optical Internetworking Forum's (OIF) and the Open Networking Foundation's (ONF) 2014 Worldwide Transport SDN Interoperability Demonstration, Coriant, together with industry peers, successfully demonstrated a wide range of bandwidth-on-demand test configurations including dynamically switched Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and the new interfaces for transport connectivity services being developed at the OIF and ONF. The Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ SDN solution enables programmability in the network by combining dynamic multi-layer transport with dynamic SDN control to enable service providers to transform their network and service-delivery model. As demonstrated in the interoperability event, an SDN-based bandwidth-on-demand service offering can help the operator offer customized on-demand services for new revenue opportunities, while also optimizing precious network resources and reducing capital infrastructure costs, both of which enable an overall improved return on investment return-on-investment (ROI).

"Coriant's SDN solution makes it possible for service providers to tailor connectivity according to a given application's specific requirements – across multiple layers, domains and technologies," said Stu Benington, Vice President of the Cloud and SDN Business Unit at Coriant. "As a long-standing member of both the OIF and the ONF, we continue to support industry-leading multi-vendor interoperability initiatives leveraging our experiences helping network operators around the world yield tangible benefits from deploying SDN, data, and dynamic packet optical technologies to produce more efficient and agile networks."

"Interoperability and Software Defined Networking are critical issues for service providers who want to increase network programmability and drive cost out of the network," said Rick Talbot, Principal Analyst at Current Analysis. "The latest OIF and ONF interoperability demo moves forward innovative features that are aimed at reducing network operations, administration, and maintenance costs while also improving providers' ability to dynamically allocate bandwidth and offer novel new services."

Your job is mostly boring. Many of the IT operations tasks you perform on a day-to-day basis are repetitive and dull. Utilizing automation can improve your work life, automating away the drudgery and embracing the passion for technology that got you started in the first place. In this presentation, I'll talk about what automation is, and how to approach implementing it in the context of IT Operations. Ned will discuss keys to success in the long term and include practical real-world examples. Get started on automating your way to a brighter future!
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next-gen applications and how to address the challenges of building applications that harness all data types and sources.
Whenever a new technology hits the high points of hype, everyone starts talking about it like it will solve all their business problems. Blockchain is one of those technologies. According to Gartner's latest report on the hype cycle of emerging technologies, blockchain has just passed the peak of their hype cycle curve. If you read the news articles about it, one would think it has taken over the technology world. No disruptive technology is without its challenges and potential impediments that frequently get lost in the hype. The panel will discuss their perspective on what they see as they key challenges and/or impediments to adoption, and how they see those issues could be resolved or mitigated.
