IP Infusion Announces ZebIC Data Plane Integration Software (ZebIC) for BCM56850 StrataXGS Trident II

IP Infusion, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced Ethernet and IP services, today announced the availability of hardware integration software (ZebIC™) for Broadcom StrataXGS® Trident II switching platform. IP Infusion ZebIC provides a scalable, hardware-independent architecture that enables network equipment providers to efficiently develop networking solutions based on leading silicon platforms. ZebIC for Trident II allows network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) to quickly and inexpensively deliver networking products built around this switching platform.

Network equipment manufacturers are rapidly moving to SDN and are challenged to develop new and differentiated products at break-neck speeds. Equipment providers transitioning to SDN require a control plane architecture that can isolate hardware development from software development and allow rapid portability of new networking services across a wide-range of advanced silicon. IP Infusion's ZebIC enables developers to develop, integrate and test a target platform, while the actual hardware system is still under development. Pre-integrated with ZebOS®-XP control plane platform, IP Infusion’s next generation network platform for terabit scale networks and network devices, the modular and flexible ZebIC platform for Broadcom StrataXGS Trident II:

  • Enables the separation of hardware development from software development through the ZebOS Abstraction Layer.
  • Isolates all of the hardware and operating system specific interactions into a small set of well-defined function calls for the control plane.
  • Enables customers to accelerate new product development lifecycle, improve time-to-revenue, optimize scarce development resources and easily move to new generations of chipsets faster and with less cost.

“Hardware-dominated development environments require advanced software, speed and agility in order to survive in the ever-changing networking marketplace,” said Kiyo Oishi, CEO and president of IP Infusion. “With ZebIC, many network equipment vendors without the depth of integration experience and expertise, can now meet today’s tight time-to-market and cost demands.”

IP Infusion's ZebIC solution provides pre-integration, optimization and validation testing of the ZebOS-XP Control Platform with hardware platforms and operating systems. For more than a decade the ZebOS software-based routing and switching platform has been used in mission-critical networks in mobile backhaul, carrier transport and data center networks. ZebOS-XP is been built upon an SDN Architecture and includes hardware and embedded OS software abstraction layers to enable communication with the underlying operating system or network processor for forwarding table updates. The platform supports more than 200 routing and switching protocols and provides a modular architecture, allowing customers to select and integrate only the protocols needed.

The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next-gen applications and how to address the challenges of building applications that harness all data types and sources.
Whenever a new technology hits the high points of hype, everyone starts talking about it like it will solve all their business problems. Blockchain is one of those technologies. According to Gartner's latest report on the hype cycle of emerging technologies, blockchain has just passed the peak of their hype cycle curve. If you read the news articles about it, one would think it has taken over the technology world. No disruptive technology is without its challenges and potential impediments that frequently get lost in the hype. The panel will discuss their perspective on what they see as they key challenges and/or impediments to adoption, and how they see those issues could be resolved or mitigated.
