Edgewater Networks Builds Upon Relationship with Metaswitch in Delivering Service Provider Solutions at Metaswitch Forum 2014

Edgewater Networks, Inc. announced today a series of activities at the upcoming Metaswitch Forum 2014 supporting the ongoing relationship between the two companies.

John Macario, Vice President of Marketing for Edgewater Networks, will be a featured speaker at a session titled “From Hosted Voice to Managed Business Services - Where are we going?” The presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2104 at 1:45 pm and it will cover the significant transformation driven by Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and how these technologies are opening new opportunities for service delivery beyond traditional voice and data services.

“Edgewater and Metaswitch share a common vision and commitment. Both companies are creating and delivering cutting edge solutions for service providers helping them deliver new, profitable business services,” said Dave Norman, CEO of Edgewater Networks. “We look forward to building on our past successes as SDN and NFV open entirely new areas for collaboration.”

Edgewater will also participate at booth #214 on the exposition floor of the Metaswitch Forum, showcasing the company’s EdgeMarc and EdgeProtect series of Enterprise Session Border Controller (ESBC) products.

Themed “The Brains of the New Global Network,” Metaswitch Forum takes place May 12-15, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. The annual Metaswitch Forum brings together communication service providers, technology vendors and expert speakers from around the world for three days of discussions on innovative products, industry trends and best practices on network transformation, cloud computing and the rise of software telcos.

Edgewater and Metaswitch have partnered on a variety of initiatives, including:

  • The combination of Edgewater’s VoIP monitoring and installation solution, EdgeView, with Metaswitch’s MetaView solution, which has enabled numerous service providers to reduce costs and simplify the provisioning of communications services in enterprise environments where a heterogeneous mix of IP phone devices from different manufacturers are in use.
  • The certification of Edgewater Networks’ EdgeMarc series of ESBC products under the Metaswitch Mosaic Certification program for the delivery of SIP Trunking and Hosted PBX services.
  • Metaswitch’s membership in Edgewater’s Plug & Dial Alliance program that enables service providers to significantly shorten hosted VoIP installation times and simplify ongoing moves, adds and changes. In addition to offering interoperability between, and automated setup of, many leading brands of SIP-based IP phones, the Edgewater Plug & Dial Alliance program continuously tests new devices and adds them to the program.

The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully been able to harness the excess capacity of privately owned vehicles and turned into a meaningful business. This concept can be step-functioned to harnessing the spare compute capacity of smartphones that can be orchestrated by MEC to provide cloud service at the edge.
Using new techniques of information modeling, indexing, and processing, new cloud-based systems can support cloud-based workloads previously not possible for high-throughput insurance, banking, and case-based applications. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, John Newton, CTO, Founder and Chairman of Alfresco, described how to scale cloud-based content management repositories to store, manage, and retrieve billions of documents and related information with fast and linear scalability. He addressed the challenges of scaling document repositories to this level; architectural approaches for coordinating data; search and storage technologies, Solr, and Amazon storage and database technologies; the breadth of use cases that modern content systems need to support; how to support user applications that require subsecond response times.
