Brocade Further Integrates SAN Management Technology into EMC ViPR Software Defined Storage Platform to Support Larger Deployments

Expands ViPR Scalability for EMC Fibre Channel SAN Install Base

LAS VEGAS,—May 6, 2014: Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD), the leader in data centre fabric networking solutions, today announced additional integration of the company's storage area networking (SAN) management technology into the EMC® ViPR™ Software-Defined Storage Platform resulting in support for larger SANs within highly virtualised cloud environments.

New integration for the EMC ViPR platform combines Fibre Channel routing and logical SAN (LSAN) zoning with Brocade Network Advisor SAN management software to enable policy-based automation for managing and provisioning both EMC and non-EMC storage infrastructure within medium to large enterprise SANs using the industry-standard Storage Management Initiative (SMI) interface.

Integrating Fibre Channel routing and LSAN zoning with Brocade Network Advisor will help reduce data centre costs and complexity for both current and future application deployments in larger SANs by taking advantage of Brocade Gen 5 Fibre Channel SAN solutions enhanced with Brocade Fabric Vision™ technology. Brocade Network Advisor is sold by EMC as Connectrix® Manager Converged Network Edition (CMCNE).

As a result of the joint efforts, EMC and Brocade's largest SAN customers can now utilise the EMC ViPR platform to leverage existing storage infrastructures for traditional data centre workloads. This complete spectrum of capabilities can be run with enterprise storage, including the EMC VMAX®, VPLEX®, VNX®, Atmos® and Isilon® families, as well as commodity storage.

EMC ViPR is the world's first software-defined storage platform that is designed to provide the ability to manage both storage infrastructure (called the Control Plane) and the data stored within that infrastructure (called the Data Plane). It masks the complexity behind configuring and managing storage infrastructure, providing single point-and-click management for complex, heterogeneous storage functions.

"Expanding the scale of SANs supported by EMC ViPR furthers our joint efforts to make Fibre Channel an essential element of the software-defined data centre and protects the investment our 50,000 joint customers have made in their storage infrastructures," said Jack Rondoni, vice president, Data Centre Storage and Solutions, at Brocade. "Together, we are enabling new use cases built on top of the most reliable and highest-performing storage network."

"We are delighted to continue our long-term relationship with Brocade and to work together to ensure seamless integration of the networking stack with the ViPR Software-Defined Storage platform," said Christopher Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, Advanced Software Division, EMC Corporation. "Our joint focus on reducing data centre costs and complexity in even the largest environments has resulted in the rapid adoption of EMC ViPR across our installed base."

Availability and Pricing
The EMC ViPR platform is now available from EMC and its global network of channel partners. For pricing information, please contact EMC at emc.com.

With more than 30 Kubernetes solutions in the marketplace, it's tempting to think Kubernetes and the vendor ecosystem has solved the problem of operationalizing containers at scale or of automatically managing the elasticity of the underlying infrastructure that these solutions need to be truly scalable. Far from it. There are at least six major pain points that companies experience when they try to deploy and run Kubernetes in their complex environments. In this presentation, the speaker will detail these pain points and explain how cloud can address them.
Discussions of cloud computing have evolved in recent years from a focus on specific types of cloud, to a world of hybrid cloud, and to a world dominated by the APIs that make today's multi-cloud environments and hybrid clouds possible. In this Power Panel at 17th Cloud Expo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists addressed the importance of customers being able to use the specific technologies they need, through environments and ecosystems that expose their APIs to make true change and transformation possible.
"Space Monkey by Vivent Smart Home is a product that is a distributed cloud-based edge storage network. Vivent Smart Home, our parent company, is a smart home provider that places a lot of hard drives across homes in North America," explained JT Olds, Director of Engineering, and Brandon Crowfeather, Product Manager, at Vivint Smart Home, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held Oct 31 – Nov 2, 2017, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
We are seeing a major migration of enterprises applications to the cloud. As cloud and business use of real time applications accelerate, legacy networks are no longer able to architecturally support cloud adoption and deliver the performance and security required by highly distributed enterprises. These outdated solutions have become more costly and complicated to implement, install, manage, and maintain.SD-WAN offers unlimited capabilities for accessing the benefits of the cloud and Internet. SD-WAN helps enterprises to take advantage of the exploding landscape of cloud applications and services, due to its unique capability to support all things cloud related.
In an era of historic innovation fueled by unprecedented access to data and technology, the low cost and risk of entering new markets has leveled the playing field for business. Today, any ambitious innovator can easily introduce a new application or product that can reinvent business models and transform the client experience. In their Day 2 Keynote at 19th Cloud Expo, Mercer Rowe, IBM Vice President of Strategic Alliances, and Raejeanne Skillern, Intel Vice President of Data Center Group and GM, discussed how clients in this new era of innovation can apply data, technology, plus human ingenuity to springboard to advance new business value and opportunities.
