MongoDB has announced that Crittercism, a San Francisco based startup, is using MongoDB as the data store for its mobile application performance management (mAPM) solution. Crittercism helps developers and enterprises build better, faster, smarter, high performance apps. The MongoDB-based solution currently handles 3 billion requests per day from applications run by over 800 million monthly active users.
Crittercism processes massive amounts of data using MongoDB, including detailed diagnostics on application performance; error reporting; cloud services; network breadcrumbs; device, carrier and OS trends; different application versions; and user behavior. With MongoDB, Crittercism can easily capture, store and analyze massive amounts of unstructured mobile data in real-time that is steadily increasing in volume and granularity.
"CIOs are seeing their entire business shifting to mobile for all types of applications, but old IT infrastructures can't support new use cases," said Lars Kamp, VP of Business Development at Crittercism. "MongoDB bridges that gap, giving us a database that scales over time and addresses a range of use cases that are driven by consumer, enterprise, geopolitical and regulatory demands. Not only is MongoDB a key part of our infrastructure, but it is the answer to cost-effectively managing the upswell in mobile usage."
With the ability to centrally store and analyze all of the data, MongoDB allows Crittercism to recognize patterns and identify trends over time. In addition, MongoDB delivers the flexibility to store and analyze unstructured data that varies by application, use case and diagnostic parameter. In addition, Crittercism relies heavily on MongoDB Management Service (MMS) for performance visualization and monitoring of their cluster.
"As is common in a start-up environment, determining the problem you need to solve is equally important to figuring out how you'll solve it, and both tasks require extreme flexibility," said Mike Chesnut, Director of Operations Engineering at Crittercism. "MongoDB's dynamic data model has allowed us to change how we store, represent and use data, evolving development on the fly as our needs change. We are confident that MongoDB will continue to support our growth as we expand our global footprint."
MongoDB has a thriving global community with over 6.5 million downloads of its open-source database, 145,000 online education registrations, 28,000 user group members, and 20,000 MongoDB Days attendees.
All over the world, thousands of organizations use MongoDB for its agile and scalable approach to data management. Common use cases include operational and analytical big data, content management and delivery, mobile and social infrastructure, user data management, and data hub.
