Scottish Provider Fluency Enhances Ethernet Services with Overture Solutions

Overture, innovating at the metro edge for service providers and network operators worldwide, today announced Fluency Communications Ltd., a growing Scottish wholesale network operator, is deploying its Ethernet over Copper (EoC) platforms as part of a network expansion and strategic initiative to offer improved, highly scalable Carrier Ethernet services with much lower latency and greater resiliency than currently available. Overture EoC platforms support Fluency’s full suite of standards-based Ethernet services to reach businesses in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, with expansion planned throughout Scotland.

“Overture’s EoC platforms are a great fit with our business model. The Overture solution really stands out with a number of built-in features that make it easier to activate services and assure performance to ultimately deliver the time-to-service, low latency, quality of service, and reliability that our customers need,” said Charlie Boisseau, director of Fluency Communications. “Because we’ve built our fiber facilities out to the last mile, our Ethernet over Copper customers are able to receive remarkably high performance in terms of throughput and latency. This has led to a growth trajectory that has us on track to double our network over the next few years.”

Overture’s Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Certified solutions include edge and aggregation elements and help speed deployment and simplify operations through features such as integrated service activation testing, built-in copper test head, packet capture and zero touch commissioning. Capable of bonding up to 32 copper pairs for high bandwidth applications, Overture EoC solution platforms enable transport from 10Mbps to more than 100 Mbps in typical network deployments. Additionally, with advanced traffic management, line rate local switching, industry-leading resiliency options and integration into Overture’s recently announced Ensemble Open Service Architecture™ service providers like Fluency have the tools needed to differentiate their offerings.

“We are pleased to see our customers achieving success and growing their business by staying at the forefront of technology,” said Mike Aquino, president and CEO, Overture. “Fluency is raising the bar for delivering Ethernet services in Scotland. We congratulate them on their success and look forward to an ongoing collaborative relationship.”

About Fluency

Fluency is an Edinburgh based ISP and Telecoms reseller and wholesaler which was acquired by Commsworld in 2012. It operates its own carrier-grade Next Generation Network with multiple points of presence in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and is in the process of launching a new LLU network across Scotland in an effort to bring next generation connectivity to businesses. Fluency has been a proponent of peering in Scotland for many years and expects to be amongst the first network operators to join IXScotland, a Scottish Internet exchange expected to launch shortly.

"There is a huge interest in Kubernetes. People are now starting to use Kubernetes and implement it," stated Sebastian Scheele, co-founder of Loodse, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at DevOps at 19th Cloud Expo, held November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Kubernetes is an open source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. Kubernetes was originally built by Google, leveraging years of experience with managing container workloads, and is now a Cloud Native Compute Foundation (CNCF) project. Kubernetes has been widely adopted by the community, supported on all major public and private cloud providers, and is gaining rapid adoption in enterprises. However, Kubernetes may seem intimidating and complex to learn. This is because Kubernetes is more of a toolset than a ready solution. Hence it’s essential to know when and how to apply the appropriate Kubernetes constructs.
Dito announced the launch of its "Kubernetes Kickoff" application modernization program. This new packaged service offering is designed to provide a multi-phased implementation and optimization plan for leveraging Kubernetes on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). Kubernetes, a relatively new layer of the modern cloud stack, is a production-ready platform that allows companies to deploy and manage containerized applications, update with zero downtime, and securely scale their deployments.
The use of containers by developers -- and now increasingly IT operators -- has grown from infatuation to deep and abiding love. But as with any long-term affair, the honeymoon soon leads to needing to live well together ... and maybe even getting some relationship help along the way. And so it goes with container orchestration and automation solutions, which are rapidly emerging as the means to maintain the bliss between rapid container adoption and broad container use among multiple cloud hosts. This BriefingsDirect cloud services maturity discussion focuses on new ways to gain container orchestration, to better use serverless computing models, and employ inclusive management to keep the container love alive.
