vArmour Networks Closes $6 Million Series A Funding

Highland Capital Partners Leads Investment in Software-Defined Security Pioneer

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- vArmour Networks, a pioneer in software-defined security for virtualized data centers, today announced it has raised $6 million in a Series A round of financing led by Highland Capital Partners. This brings the company's total funding to $8 million since its founding in January 2011 by two NetScreen veterans. The new financing will be used to expand the team and to launch vArmour's unique software-defined security solution into the marketplace. As part of the investment, Corey Mulloy, general partner at Highland Capital Partners, joins the board of directors.

Virtualization is being used extensively to make IT more cost effective, flexible and responsive. Already mainstream for computing, virtualization is recently being adopted in storage and networking with the emergence of software-defined storage (SDS) and software-defined networking (SDN) technologies. vArmour will be the first company to take virtualization into the realm of network security, pioneering a new kind of solution called software-defined security (SDSec). SDSec will address the scalability, flexibility and cost challenges that plague current network security technologies, with a focus oneliminating the bottlenecks that have prevented data centers from fully realizing the benefits of compute and network virtualization.

"While computing, networking and storage systems have become more flexible and dynamic with the advent of virtualization, security systems have lagged behind," said Corey Mulloy, general partner at Highland Capital Partners. "vArmour's innovative SDSec solution addresses a large opportunity in the network security market. They have the right team with the right DNA and a compelling technology. vArmour will be an important player in the data center."

"We're extremely excited to join the Highland Capital Partners portfolio," said Roger Lian, co-founder and CEO of vArmour. "Corey and the Highland team have a clear understanding of how virtualization places new demands and opens new opportunities across the IT spectrum. With the benefit of their deep enterprise experience, and our new resources, we're in a great position to further build our team and launch our SDSec solutions into the market."

vArmour's SDSec solutions are currently in evaluation with large enterprises and service providers in the US and internationally. To join the vArmour team, visit www.varmour.com/careers.html.

About vArmour Networks
Privately held and based in Santa Clara, CA, vArmour Networks is the pioneer of software defined security (SDSec). vArmour's SDSec solution brings a scalable, flexible, programmable network security enforcement layer to highly virtualized computing environments in a way that fits; the security now mirrors the environment, rather than contorting the environment to fit the security. While fully compatible with SDN technologies like OpenFlow, vArmour's SDSec solution can be deployed today in both conventional and virtual networking environments. The result: Intelligent security that works like the rest of your virtual data center. Cloud Expo Breaking News
“Social, mobile, analytics and cloud can’t be looked at as distinct technology trends; they are facets of the same movement and an everyday reality for consumers and businesses alike,” said Craig Sowell, IBM VP of SmartCloud Marketing, in this exclusive Q&A with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. “This means that businesses need to start looking at trends as one: cloud is the delivery, analytics is the unique insight, social is a shareable service, and mobile is the ubiquitous access.” ...
In his session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Dave Eichorn, Global Data Center Practice Head at Zensar, will share a case study describing how a utility services company handled the migration of its Microsoft platform to the cloud. Challenged with the time-consuming task of opening operations out of temporary offices, this company struggled with the need to simultaneously access data that was accumulated from a vast amount of data-intensive jobs. Zensar migrated the company’s application ...
Organizations across the world are increasingly starting to see the benefits of moving more and more services to the cloud. The focus on the cost-saving potential of cloud is rapidly shifting to completely transforming the business with cloud. As organizations are investing enormous sums on technology they are starting to realize that in order to maximize the return on investment and accelerate the business transformation process the first area of focus should be people. By ensuring the organiza...
You're getting pitched every day from your legacy enterprise software and hardware vendors about "cloud." They're doing an amazing job of convincing your CIO and CTO about what cloud is and how you should use it. The reality is they're defending their shrinking market share and keeping you on the legacy treadmill for as long as they can by selling you solutions that aren't "cloud." In her session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Niki Acosta, Cloud Evangelista for Rackspace, will talk thro...
As enterprises deploy private IaaS clouds into production they are reevaluating their future application delivery models. SUSE and WSO2 believe that private PaaS will leverage the automation and scalability of Private IaaS solutions, such as OpenStack-based SUSE Cloud, to deliver the secure, standardized development environments that will make migrating to an agile, serviceoriented delivery model possible. In their session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Chris Haddad, VP of Technology Ev...
The new open source cloud orchestration platform called OpenStack is the promise of flexible network virtualization, and network overlays are looking closer than ever. The vision of this platform is to enable the on-demand creation of many distinct networks on top of one underlying physical infrastructure in the cloud environment. The platform will support automated provisioning and management of large groups of virtual machines or compute resources, including extensive monitoring in the cloud.
Everyone is virtualizing, but are they realizing any of the promised savings? This overview of IBM's new virtualization optimization solutions will show you how integrated Cloud Solutions like SmartCloud Provisioning and SmartCloud Monitoring can deliver the savings virtualization promises. Organizations are using intelligent management and analytics to provide the insight needed to optimize their virtualized infrastructure and dramatically improve availability, reduce data storage footprint...
One of the most compelling promises of the cloud is that you can pull out a credit card and be working in minutes. No purchase orders to fill out, no equipment to wait for on the loading dock. Just instant access to the resources you need, when you need them. But accessibility comes at a price, and an unintentional consequence may be that you create yet another orphaned identity silo. Enterprise IT has spent years consolidating its mishmash of directories, only to discover that cloud now threate...
Cloud computing is transforming the way businesses think about and leverage technology. As a result, the general understanding of cloud computing has come a long way in a short time. However, there are still many misconceptions about what cloud computing is and what it can do for businesses that adopt this game-changing computing model. In his General Session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Gene Eun, Senior Director, Oracle Cloud at Oracle, will discuss and dispel some of the common myth...
OpenStack Cells is one of the most anticipated features in Grizzly, the seventh release of the open source software that offers more block storage options and scalability.
