MKS Redefines Application Lifecycle Management Market With MKS Integrity 2006

WATERLOO, ONTARIO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/24/06 -- Innovative Application Portfolio Management and Deployment Capabilities Targets CIO Top Priorities

MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSX: MKX) today announced the introduction of MKS Integrity 2006, a sweeping new release of the company's application lifecycle management (ALM) platform signifying MKS's extension into the application portfolio management market.

According to Forrester Research; CIOs remain crippled by a lack of visibility. Today, they are able to measure and monitor only a mere fraction of their application development (AD) activities.

By adding application portfolio management into its unified ALM architecture, MKS provides CIOs with critical management support for business transformations such as SOA, application rationalization, off-shoring and compliance. CIOs and CTOs are investing actively in ALM to better align the application development lifecycle with business process, accelerate productivity, innovate rapidly and automate compliance.

Competitive offerings provide bolt-on solutions with visibility into a mere 25 percent of AD expenditures & effort. They rely on manual data entry and carry the risk of subjective bias. MKS has built its portfolio capability as an integrated part of the application lifecycle -- deeply connected to MKS's single repository. This integrated, single architecture approach allows CXOs to data-mine lifecycle activities in real time in order to manage, monitor and act. Called MKS Portfolios, this extended set of capabilities is available soon as part of MKS's new MKS Integrity 2006 release.

In a recent presentation, Gartner Research Vice President, Jim Duggan states, "By 2007, enterprises that implement a disciplined application portfolio management strategy can reduce IT expenses by at least 20 percent and future application transformation costs by 30 percent." Duggan continues, "Integrated enterprise-level architecture, application portfolio and project planning will support IT governance and investment in 40% of large enterprises (global 2000 and government) by 2007."(i)

"A portfolio that is disconnected from the lifecycle is like a dashboard disconnected from the car - it just doesn't work," says Philip Deck, MKS CEO. "MKS Portfolios is built as an extension of our single platform approach to application lifecycle management. Linked by common process to requirements management, software change management and deployment management, MKS Portfolios offers CIOs a holistic management framework providing visibility and measurement ability across the entire application portfolio. Visibility is not bolted on as an after-thought and application development investments and activities are monitored in real time without filters, time delays or bias."

MKS Portfolios offers:

- Rapid and effective decision-making for CIOs - through lifecycle data, automated metrics collection and trending views connected to the application lifecycle visibility and spanning application development activities, operations and investments;

- Performance & manage by exception monitoring - through an active inventory of applications and projects within the IT portfolio, configurable ranges and views and visual red-yellow-green performance indicators;

- The ability to act and respond in real-time - configurable dashboards give instant access to real-time metrics and trends with drill-down capabilities directly into lifecycle activities;

- A complete picture of AD productivity and efficiency - through trending and cost analysis across multiple projects, applications and across time;

- Improved communication between AD and the Project Management Office - through bi-directional integration with Microsoft Project;

- Integral design - the antithesis of bolt on, after-market technology. The single repository allows users to transition from portfolio summaries, charts and metrics directly into requirements, source code, test plans, documentation and other related application lifecycle artifacts.

The past few years have brought a sea change in the way applications are architected, developed, and consumed—increasing both the complexity of testing and the business impact of software failures. How can software testing professionals keep pace with modern application delivery, given the trends that impact both architectures (cloud, microservices, and APIs) and processes (DevOps, agile, and continuous delivery)? This is where continuous testing comes in. D
Modern software design has fundamentally changed how we manage applications, causing many to turn to containers as the new virtual machine for resource management. You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
